Via Nazionale (National Highway in English) is a main artery that runs through Rome’s historical center. Originally called Via Pia, after the Blessed Pope Pius IX, who was a main artery that connects the train station Hauptbahnhof create the center. The road has changed and expanded, with an extension to the eastern bank of the Tiber.
Today, Via Nazionale, a popular shopping area for locals and tourists. You will find all kinds of shops, cafes and restaurants along this stretch of 1 km. Some notable buildings are also on the Via Nazionale, Palazzo delle Esposizioni (1883), Palazzo Koch (site of the Banca d’Italia) located (1892) and the Church of St. Paul in the walls (1880) and you can go from one end others go in 15 minutes. The street also has excellent links to several bus routes by the Vatican, Piazza Navona, Tiber Island, etc., and the subway station Republica north side.
